These two variants are associated with gene RAB27A and USP22 . The RAB27A gene plays a crucial role in growth , playing a role in melanocytes( pigment responsible for skin , eye and hair colour) and RAB27A gene deficiency can cause griscelli syndrome ( cause due to hypopigmentation ) . The other USP22 a human gene that codes for the ubiquitin-specific peptidase 22 protein, a deubiquitinase. It plays a crucial role in cell cycle controls and impacting cellular behaviour.
According to johannesburg cancer study:
“ the two variants are identified in black African woman who have breast cancer” African population have more genetic variations than any other population in the world . According to a research: “More people can get benefit from genetic discoveries” Black women are also on a higher risk of death due to triple negative breast cancer in South Africa . Also black women diagnose with cancer at a very later stage that effect treatment and more. A survey carried out by YouGov for Cancer Research UK found:
“Women from an ethnic minority background were more likely to report they didn’t know any warning signs and symptoms of cancer compare to those white women’s “

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in South Africa and the most common cancer in the world.
Lack of cancer risk tool’s: There is lack of screening and proper tools in Africa this is a reason why Cancer is increasing day by day in africa. According to a research 8 million people in low middle class countries die from poor health care system. From 2022 cancer is increasing in South Africa .
The identification of these two genes represents a pivotal advancement in understanding breast cancer biology in women of African descent.
The study led by Mahtab Hayat reveals: “Existing tools for breast cancer identification are not always accurate for african women , because these tools were developed using data from european population” In kenya every year almost 3,000 women die due to breast cancer according to national institute of Kenya.
Another professor Chris mathew add up : “These two new genes will help doctor to understand which patients need stronger treatment and which patient don’t “ This scientific research highlights the need of more advance genomic research tools in Africa.
How to prevent breast cancer
● Proper screening (through proper screening breast cancer risks can be lower)
● Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption
● Maintain a healthy life style including a good diet full of nutrients and vitamins.
Breast cancer is the growth of abnormal cells . Cancer cells can spread to nearby cells creating tumors that cause lumps and thickening. ‘’Breast cancer is the most common cancer increasing year by year in South African women’s “In South Africa (2018) the mortality rate was higher in coloured females as compare to white women .
21.83% deaths in cloured women while 18% deaths in white women. Through screening and proper diet we can prevent breast cancer and also it’s early detection can increase life span and also can cure cancer. The end..
