Donald Trump warns Apple CEO Tim Cook that he doesn’t want Indian manufacture IPhone’s in the US. He further said if apple continues selling indian iPhones 25% shariff will be imposed.
Donald Trump said:
“I have asked Tim Cook many times to sell US made iPhones in US not the ones who were manufactured in India” Trump said they must shift to the US and sell the US made phone’s here but Apple doesn’t seem bothered by this statement as they reassured India they will go ahead with their plans and will sell phones manufactured in India.
China-US tariff:
Apples moved from China to India after the conflict between US and China about tariffs. They give this reason why they move to India for phone manufacturing. Donald Trump threatened Apple that he will impose a 25% tariff if they won’t stop the plans with India. Further on this will result in downfall for Apple as their market share will collapse about 3.5%.
According to Trump, tax on imports will increase US manufacturing and it will increase employment opportunities in the country.
The biggest trading partner is the European Union who export their goods to America. But recently Trump blamed them saying this is an unfair policy where the European Union sells more goods in the US and buys less from them because of this their industries are struggling. Donald Trump also raised concerns about agricultural policy .
Some countries like China and Canada replied to these tariff threads by saying they will also impose taxes on US products. Trump said the 25% tariff policy will also apply on Samsung.
Canada as a tariff abuser: Trump called Canada tariff abuser before and said we don’t need their cars and energy. He said we will make our own and soon the world will see it . Trump said Canada is charging 250% to 390% tariff on US farm products which is unfair and the United states is not going to support Canada financially through this. Trump said those cars can be easily made in the US.
Threads to European Union:
Adding on, Trump said now we don’t want any deal with the European Union ( earlier Trump threatened the EU with a 50% tariff) . This policy will be applicable from 1 June 2025. Scott Bessent while giving interview to fox news said:
The deal proposed with the EU is not the same as with other trading partners. He said there are 18 trading partners and every partner is doing good except EU. Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin called this new policy disappointing.
Trump on twitter said the European Union was made on purpose to take advantage from the US on trade but now it’s very difficult to deal with them. Additionally he added if the product will be manufactured in America there will be no tariff.
Conclude: The new tariff policy will be applicable from 1 June 2025. Trump said on twitter the EU imposed 50% tariff on whisky if this tariff is not removed we will impose 200% tariff on all wines and alcoholic products.
Also Apple seems unbothered by this policy as they already assured India they will sell IPhone’s manufactured in India. Trump thread’s European Union that he would impose a 200% tariff on their alcoholic products. Apple sells almost 60 million IPhone’s to US annually and now trump imposed 25% tariff on apple smart phone’s if they continue manufacturing in India.
