Position Overview

We’re looking for a creative and witty short-form video editor who can transform written features into engaging, platform-native Reels, TikToks, and YouTube Shorts. This is your chance to bring stories to life visually with precision, humor, and editorial flair. If you understand how to blend journalism with social trends while maintaining brand integrity, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce short-form video content (Reels, TikToks, Shorts) based on Observer’s articles and features.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to identify visual angles, headlines, and narratives suitable for social media.
  • Edit videos using tools such as Adobe Premiere, CapCut, or Canva to achieve a polished, editorial look.
  • Write engaging captions, overlays, and hooks tailored to each platform’s tone and algorithm.
  • Maintain a cohesive visual identity that reflects Observer’s sophisticated yet daring brand voice.
  • Keep track of social media trends and creatively adapt them to Observer’s style without compromising editorial value.
  • Optimize videos for reach, engagement, and watch-time metrics.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 2+ years) creating short-form content for reputable media or digital brands.
  • Strong command of editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Canva, or similar software.
  • Excellent storytelling skills capable of translating complex written features into visually appealing narratives.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Eye for aesthetics, pacing, and cultural nuance.
  • Strong writing ability for crafting captions, titles, and on-screen text.
  • Awareness of pop culture, fashion, media trends, politics, and contemporary social dynamics.

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Media Studies, Communication, Journalism, Film Production, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in digital content creation, video editing, or social media production for editorial or media outlets.
