Role Overview

We’re looking for a skilled Haskell Developer to join our team as a part-time contractor. You will be a key contributor to a long-term, high-impact project primarily written in Haskell. Your work will focus on backend architecture, database optimization, and infrastructure enhancements. If you thrive in fast-paced environments and take pride in delivering clean, testable, and scalable code, this is the role for you!

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain backend solutions using Haskell (95% of your time).
• Optimize database interactions using Persistent and Esqueleto libraries.
• Collaborate on infrastructure improvements to ensure system scalability and performance.
• Apply property-based testing techniques (e.g., QuickCheck) to maintain code quality.
• Occasionally contribute to frontend components using TypeScript/React and related tools.
• Participate in agile ceremonies: stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives.
• Communicate directly with clients to gather requirements, provide updates, and ensure alignment.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Advanced English proficiency (spoken and written) to effectively communicate with clients.
• Must work as an independent contractor. US-based candidates require LLC, S-Corp, or C-Corp status.
• 5+ years professional experience in Haskell development with strong programming skills.
• Extensive experience with Yesod and database libraries like Persistent and Esqueleto.
• Proven ability to write clean, scalable, and testable code.
• Hands-on experience with property-based testing methodologies.
• Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills with excellent verbal and written communication.
• Availability for 20–30 hours per week with 4-hour overlap in EDT.

Bonus Skills

• Frontend experience with TypeScript and React.
• Familiarity with jQuery, Bootstrap, Webpack.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Equivalent practical experience or demonstrated expertise in Haskell and functional programming is also accepted.

Experience

• Proven track record of contributing to large-scale Haskell projects in production environments.
• Hands-on involvement in database design and optimization using Persistent and Esqueleto.
• Experience with Agile software development methodologies and collaborative team environments.
• Participation in code reviews, pair programming, and continuous integration practices.
