About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Network Engineer I to join our team at the West Support Center. This role is essential in monitoring and maintaining the District Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure, supporting both wired and wireless connectivity as well as unified communications systems.
This position requires hands-on work with layer 1 and layer 2 network technologies, including troubleshooting, resolving, and escalating network issues, especially related to data, voice, and video communications. The ideal candidate will have experience with Cisco networking equipment and WAN IP networking.
Note: This is not a remote position. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Colorado.
What You'll Do
- Maintain and support layer 1 network infrastructure and voice systems including voicemail and voice recognition hardware/software.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network connectivity and telephony issues.
- Manage work request tickets, including large update and deployment projects.
- Assist area technicians as needed to ensure smooth network operations.
- Document system design, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with network technologies.
- Provide excellent communication with the school district community and coworkers.
What We’re Looking For
Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to install, test, document, and troubleshoot Layer 1 and Layer 2 network components.
- Experience with WAN connectivity and Cisco networking equipment (routers, switches, wireless access points).
- Familiarity with WAN IP networking using leased lines (T1/T3/OC3/OC12) and fiber optic technologies is a plus.
- Knowledge of Windows and macOS network environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and prioritization skills.
- Willingness to work cooperatively with supervisors and colleagues.
- Ability to perform tasks independently with minimal supervision.
Certifications:
- Network+ certification is a plus but not required.
Education & Experience
- Education: Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: At least 2 years of hands-on experience in LAN/WAN network environments, including designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining network hardware and transport media.
Additional Details
- This position requires meeting attendance standards and working full scheduled hours.
- General office environment with mostly clean and comfortable working conditions.
- No supervisory duties.
