About the Role
As a Project Coordinator, you will support the smooth execution of day-to-day operations for powerline construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. You will assist in estimating new projects, coordinating resources, supporting the project plan and schedule, and working closely with the Project Manager to achieve operational objectives.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for new graduates to gain hands-on experience in large and complex projects while building a strong foundation for a career in construction project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain site safety programs.
- Assist with subcontractor and supplier selection, procurement, and negotiations for complex and design-build projects.
- Support project start-up procedures, including setting up offices, filing systems, cost accounting, and project directories.
- Maintain project documentation, meeting minutes, logs, drawings, specifications, and financial records.
- Coordinate subcontractor management processes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage Requests for Information (RFI) processes and logs.
- Assist in project scheduling, tracking milestones, and updating schedules with Project Manager oversight.
- Prepare purchase requisitions and assist with material and equipment procurement.
- Support project close-out by creating turnover documents, demobilizing sites, and archiving records.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly project control and reporting tasks.
Qualifications & Skills
- Completion of a Degree or Diploma in Engineering or Construction Management.
- Up to 2 years of related work experience (co-op, internships, or labor positions are considered).
- Willingness to travel to remote project sites across Western Canada.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and collaborate with teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
- Strong technical skills in MS Word, Excel, and project management tools.
- Problem-solving skills based on established procedures.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Diploma in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering.
- Coursework or certification in project management is a plus.
Experience
- Co-op, internship, or entry-level construction/project experience preferred.
- Exposure to field work, site supervision, or project coordination is an advantage.
Working Conditions
- Remote project sites in Western Canada (typical shifts: 14 days on, 7 days off).
- Office-based work when projects are not active.
