Job Overview
Ingredion is seeking a Fermentation Scientist to join our biotransformation team. This role focuses on developing, optimizing, and scaling industrial fermentation processes for a variety of microbes, including yeast, bacteria, and filamentous fungi. You will collaborate cross-functionally with scientists, engineers, and external partners to accelerate product commercialization and support business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize industrial fermentation, downstream processing (DSP), and formulation processes for various microbes.
- Design and execute bench, pilot, and industrial-scale fermentation experiments safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to execute high-impact projects and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Manage contract research organizations (CROs) and contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) to meet project deadlines.
- Contribute to the design and upgrade of manufacturing infrastructure, including bioreactor operations, process monitoring, automation, and data management.
- Prepare technical and experimental reports, feasibility studies, and recommendations for process improvement.
- Stay updated on fermentation literature, trends, and emerging technologies.
Qualifications & Education
- Education: MSc or PhD in Fermentation Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years as a Fermentation Scientist or Engineer, with hands-on experience in bench and pilot-scale fermentation and process optimization.
- Knowledge of microbial physiology, bioreactor design, metabolic pathways, strain and enzyme engineering.
- Proficiency in microbiological techniques, downstream processing, statistical tools, and data analytics.
- Experience with process scale-up and scale-down is highly preferred.
