Security Officer

About the Role

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Security Officer to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. You’ll patrol hospital grounds, monitor security cameras, respond to emergencies, and ensure compliance with safety protocols. This role plays a key part in protecting one of the region’s leading healthcare facilities, including a Level III Trauma Center.

What You’ll Do

• Patrol hospital campus and surrounding areas actively.
• Monitor activity via surveillance cameras and conduct security investigations.
• Respond promptly and professionally to routine and emergency situations.
• Maintain detailed logs and documentation of security incidents.
• Perform physical safety tasks including de-escalation and intervention as needed.
• Complete Fit for Duty physical assessment (response walk, stair climb, drag to safety, lift).

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification:
• Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
• Must obtain Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification within 90 days of hire.
• Experience:
• Minimum 1 year of security experience preferred.
• Military, law enforcement, or prior healthcare security experience is a strong plus.
• De-escalation and physical intervention training required within 180 days of hire.
