You’ll work closely with physicians and healthcare teams to clarify diagnoses, treatments, and procedures — directly impacting patient outcomes and hospital revenue.

This position is primarily on-site in Scranton, PA, with the potential for some remote work in the future.

What You’ll Do

  • Review inpatient medical records within 24-48 hours of admission to evaluate documentation for accurate diagnosis and procedure coding.
  • Perform follow-up reviews every 3 days to finalize diagnoses and DRG assignments before discharge.
  • Identify missing, conflicting, or unclear documentation and formulate queries to clarify these with physicians.
  • Educate medical staff on the importance of comprehensive and precise clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, pharmacy, and nutrition to resolve documentation queries.
  • Maintain productivity targets and contribute to improving clinical documentation processes.
  • Partner with coding professionals to ensure accurate patient record coding and case mix index.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education:
    • Required: Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program (Associate Degree or Diploma)
    • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of registered nursing experience, preferably in acute care settings
    • Strong clinical knowledge including anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Pennsylvania
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to analyze complex clinical data and documentation
    • Strong multitasking and organizational abilities
