About the Role

Join UMass Memorial Health as a Lead Financial Clearance Specialist and play a key role in ensuring patients receive timely insurance clearances for urgent and scheduled medical services. You’ll lead a team of Financial Clearance Specialists, oversee workflow, provide training, and help maintain smooth operations in insurance verification and authorizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and monitor workflow for a team of Financial Clearance Specialists.
  • Train and assist team members with system procedures and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee insurance verification and authorization for inpatient visits, outpatient procedures, surgeries, and tests.
  • Ensure all insurance authorizations align with medical codes and hospital policies.
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding urgent surgeries and admissions.
  • Verify insurance eligibility using online tools and direct payor contacts.
  • Ensure patient insurance data is accurate in the Epic system.
  • Assist in collecting patient liabilities prior to or on the date of service.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts and comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Foster a respectful, professional, and collaborative work environment.

Education & Experience

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in insurance verification and/or authorization.
  • At least 1 year experience as a Financial Clearance Representative in good standing.
  • Strong English communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare registration software.

Preferred:

  • Associate Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Bilingual skills (a plus).
  • Experience using Epic or similar electronic health record systems.
