About the Role

We’re seeking a Virtual Assistant Controller to support accounting operations for a growing portfolio of clients. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with Controllers, Bookkeepers, and Bill Pay Specialists to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and maintain strong client relationships.

You’ll lead a small team, guide onboarding, review financials, and oversee systems and processes — all from the flexibility of a remote work environment.

This is an ideal position for someone with accounting experience who enjoys leadership, mentorship, and delivering high-quality financial services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review financial statements and supporting workpapers for accuracy and compliance
  • Coordinate with clients to gather necessary financial information
  • Partner with Controllers to identify and implement reporting needs
  • Assist in onboarding new clients, ensuring smooth transitions
  • Supervise and mentor 2–4 team members (Bill Pay Specialists & Bookkeepers)
  • Document and develop client-specific accounting processes and train staff accordingly
  • Create custom reporting templates based on client agreements
  • Manage software integrations and support internal/external software needs
  • Maintain regular communication with Controllers on project progress and issues
  • Escalate issues only as needed — you’re expected to lead and problem-solve independently

Education & Experience

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
  • CPA is not required, but a plus
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years in public accounting or financial reporting
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO) and/or Xero
  • Proven ability to prepare, review, and present client financial deliverables
  • Familiarity with 1099 reporting requirements
  • Leadership or team supervision experience preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and process development skills
