Design Engineer

About the Role

Join Xata’s Product team as a Design Engineer, working closely with frontend engineers. You’ll help shape the user and developer experience by defining visual consistency, shared components, and strong UX/DX. You’ll move from wireframes to coded prototypes, ensuring the product and public site look great, perform well, and feel cohesive.

Tech & Tools You’ll Use:

• Next.js, React, Tailwind (v4), Shadcn
• Figma, Whimsical, v0 (for design / rapid prototyping)
• Git/GitHub for version control

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the core product and public website design
• Define shared styles, component systems, and design guidelines
• Work with wireframes, then build prototypes / pair with devs instead of extensive mockups
• Ensure visual and functional consistency across features
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with PMs, frontend engineering, design, marketing
• Use design systems (especially Shadcn & Tailwind)
• Strong CSS skills, basic knowledge of React

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human‑Computer Interaction (HCI), Visual Arts, or related field preferred
• Courses or certifications in UI/UX design, interaction design, or frontend development are a plus

Experience

• 3‑5 years of experience in product / visual / UX / frontend design roles
• Hands on with design systems, frontend prototyping, CSS / responsive design
• Experience working in remote or distributed teams
• Portfolio showing both design & prototyping work (especially where design and code meet)
