70% of global people with HIV living in sub-saharan africa . On a recent search by WHO older adults are effected more from HIV than younger people. Research of 2022 shows about 25.6 million people living in sub-saharan africa are have HIV . From 2000 to 2016 the people of age above 50 are more likely to have HIV. In 2007 the people with HIV were 3 million. Now HIV effected people are 25.6 million so you can see how much HIV effected people increase in 19 years.
HIV is increasing in sub-saharan africa due to following reasons
HIV is increasing in south africa due to following reasons such as high rates of teenage pregnancy, gender based violence, lack of education and also poverty. Between 2005 and 2006 HIV increase in every area of south africa except Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal . Many research shows these areas are also effected but now there are low cases of HIV in these areas.
HIV is caused by a virus . It is due to unsafe sexual intercourse and also transmit from mother to child during pregnancy , childbirth or breastfeeding. It is a disease that effect body immune system because white cells provides immunity to body and HIV destroys white blood cells . There is no cure of this disease .
How to prevent this disease
Avoid using needles of affected person , avoid unsafe sexual contact don’t share needles or anything that invloves blood , it can also be transmit from effected mother to fetus. PrEP is a drug combination that is use to prevent the transmission of HIV to a negative person. It is a part of package of services available for the prevention of HIV. Avoid having contact with effected person . TasP is a common term use to define this that once a person living with HIV is on regular treatment and other person effect through this.
Black Africans effecting more than white Africans
A study conducted in 2008 reveals that 13.6% of Black Africans are HIV positive while 0.3% white Africans are HIV positive. This statics shows black Africans are effecting more than white Africans.
Also women’s are getting effect more than man especially women under the age of 40 are getting effect more. Another study reveals alcohol is the main reason of increasing HIV . Consumption of alcohol may lead to sex and violence against women and through this women disclose their positive status to their partner.
No proper hospital facilities is also a main cause of HIV increase in south africa. Nearly 4,500 South Africans are newly infected every week According to a reporter when he visited south Africa in 2019 to find out why HIV is increasing this much he was alarmed by the situation according to him : “ There was no basic facilities, no health care system , gender base society and abuse towards women “ There are no proper counselling centres in South Africa and this is also a reason why HIV is increasing in Africa day by day.
